Music by The Piano Brothers

Yanni Peter Prokos, of Hollidaysburg, died at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh on January 1, 2018.   He was born John Peter Procos on April 26, 1947, in Lock Haven to Estelle and Peter John Procos, where they were longtime owners and operators of the Sandwich Shop. Yanni graduated from Lock Haven High School and was later proprietor of a Volkswagen repair business near Williamsport. Proud of his heritage, he was active in the Greek community in Lock Haven and later in Altoona. He was a member of the American Legion and an enthusiastic supporter of Child Fund International.

Yanni loved music and his fellow musicians.  He was a skilled instrumentalist who enjoyed playing his own jazz compositions.  His passion for the music of the band The Association led to his close friendship with the band members. Throughout his life he was a kind soul and always generous to those who needed help, and he was loved by many.  Above all, Yanni was a dedicated and loving father and grandfather. In addition to his parents, Yanni was preceded in death by an infant son.

He is survived by his daughter Tara (Eric) White of Yuba City, CA, his grandson Liam White, his sister Joanne Meier of Portage, MI, three nieces, a nephew, and his cat.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Yanni's life at a service to be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday January 9, 2018, in the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home & Cremation Services LLC., 121 W. Main St. Lock Haven. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery, Lock Haven.  Family and friends will be received in the funeral home Tuesday morning, one hour prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions may be made to Lycoming Animal Protection Society (LAPS), 195 Phillips Park Dr. Williamsport, 17701.

My mother and I were saddened to learn of Yanni's passing. We lived on the same block in Hollidaysburg. He was always willing to help all the neighbors anyway he could. He was so kind to my family when my father passed away four years ago. Even though we did not know each other well, he was a kind and generous man. Our hearts go out to you in your loss.
