Norwood E. Wink, 85, passed away at the Lock Haven Extended Care Unit, where he had been a resident since June 4, 2010. Born November 6, 1924 in Tamaqua, PA, he was the son of late Charles Franklin Wink and Laura Mantz Wink. He was united in marriage to Anna M. Eaton January 4, 1947. This year they celebrated 64 years of marriage.After graduating from Lock Haven High School in 1942, he soon entered the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. He served during World War II in the European Theater earning the rank of T/5. During his service as a medic, he received the European Theater Ribbon with 3 bronze stars, Distinguished Unit Badge with Oak-Leaf Cluster, WWII Victory Metal, Bronze Star Ribbon with Oak Leaf Cluster and good Conduct Metal. He retired in 1992 from the custodial department of Lock Haven University where he was employed for thirteen years. Prior to that, he worked for Bloomsburg Mills in Lock Haven for thirty eight years.He enjoyed watching classic movies, reading the newspaper, listening to polka music, collecting Buck Jones memorabilia, and using his computer. He was of the Protestant faith.Norwood will be missed by his family, friends and the many patients and staff members from the Lock Haven Extended Care Unit. He shared a room with his wife the late Anna Wink for the past year until her death on October 9, 2011.He is survived by a daughter, Janice M. Ries and husband Albert of Lock Haven, a granddaughter, Cheryl M. Thompson of Indiana, PA and a grandson, Steven M. Thompson and wife Gina of Whitehall, PA. In addition a brother, Dr. Charles F. Wink survives him and many nieces and nephews.Along with his parents, a sister, Dorothy Wink Wettereau and two brothers, Robert Wink and George Wink preceded him in death.Funeral Services for Norwood E. Wink will be held on Tuesday Oct. 25, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home 121 W. Main St. Lock Haven, PA. Officiating will be Sharon Nestlerode of the Farrandsville United Methodist Church.Family and friends will be received in the funeral home Tuesday morning one hour prior to the services at 11:00. Interment will be in the Rest Haven Memorial Park with full military honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Clinton County SPCA through the funeral home.
