Donald L. Eggler Sr, age 88 of 68 Cemetery Street Woolrich PA passed August 17, 2018 at the Gatehouse Hospice in the Divine Providence Hospital.  Don had been staying with his granddaughter Elizabeth and Zachary Maffett and their bloodhound Dixie of Park Avenue Woolrich while he was recovering from surgery. 

Don was married to Phyllis Shields Eggler on November 14, 1953, she preceded him in death on September 7, 2014.

Don had attended the Lock Haven High School, then enlisted with the US Army serving with the 808th MP Company in Drum New York.  Don was employed at Woolrich Woolen Mills in Woolrich, for 14 years. He then worked at the post office in Woolrich for over 30 years, retiring as postmaster in 1989.   Don would reflect on past Christmas mornings, when mail would be arriving at the post office and needed to be delivered to families Christmas morning.  He would allow his own children to open one present before he left to make his early morning Christmas deliveries so that other families would receive their gifts. Up until his death he managed Rich Manor in Woolrich. 

Don or Donnie as many friends and family would call him, had been an active member of  the Woolrich Community Church, the Lock Haven American Legion and a past member of the Moose and Antlers Clubs. He coached youth bowling leagues at the Woolrich Community Center and had a girls state championship team, in 1976.  He also coached soft ball teams at the Woolrich ball fields. He was an avid softball, baseball player and enjoyed golfing, fishing, riding motorcycles and bowling.  He was a skilled craftsman who enjoyed woodworking and model airplanes and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.  

Don was the youngest of twelve children. Survivors include one son, Donald (Maggie) Eggler Jr. of Mill Hall, PA and a daughter, Carla (William) Baney III, of Lock Haven, PA. Also,a granddaughter Elizabeth (Zachary) Maffett of Woolrich and one grandson, William (Nikki) Baney IV, of Brooklyn, New York. 

Memorials in Don’s name can be made to the Woolrich Community Church, 1080 Park Ave , Woolrich or the Clinton County SPCA, 33 Mill Hill Rd. Lock Haven

Carla, so sorry to read about your dad. I always enjoyed talking to him when picking up my mail and seeing him in the community. He was always so “laid back” and so interesting to talk to. My prayers are with you and your family.
