So very sorry for your loss. I recall meeting your dad when he came to the office a few years ago.

As a graduate of Lock Haven University, I had the pleasure of having Dr. Showan as a teacher for a U.S. History class in the early 70's. He was very interesting and I enjoyed the class immensely as I am sure many others did. Wish I had had the opportunity to take more of his classes. You can be very proud of your father and his accomplishments and from all those whose lives he touched, "thank you." My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the family.

My deepest sympathy to our cousins and their families. Uncle Dan was the remaining elder statesman of our family and we will miss his calm, intelligent manner. In addition to good memories of childhood fun visiting relatives, I appreciated conversations I had with him in recent years and his perspective on life. In particular, I remember telling him I was going to try fishing in Maine. He advised me to get to know the locals, "they know where conditions are best." That has now become Uncle Dan's Locals Rule for me, expanded to mean be curious and respectful and learn from everyday people. They have a lot to teach. Thank you, Uncle Dan!
