John Jacob (Jack) Laubscher, 88, of (Swissdale) Lock Haven, passed away peacefully at home April 1, 2019 surrounded by his family.  He was born March 9, 1931 in Swissdale.  John was one of eight children born to the late Harold and Verna Keiffer Laubscher.  He was married to the former Kathryn Janet Hager of Lock Haven on December 31, 1949 in the St. Paul Lutheran church in Loganton,  He is survived by his wife of 69 years and two daughters; Kathy (Thom) Walker of Temple, PA and Cindy (David) Williams of Ellijay, GA, two sons; John (Judy) Laubscher Jr. of Jersey Shore and Bill (Tina) Laubscher of Chattanooga, TN, one sister: Betty Kerstetter of Loganton; a brother; Harold Laubscher, Jr., of Jonesboro, GA.  John is also blessed with fifteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.  In addition to his parents , John was preceded in death by three sisters; Shirley Brigman, Joanne Bower, and Janet Baney; two brothers; Ronald Laubscher and Gary Laubscher.

 

John was a 1949 graduate of Lock Haven High School and worked for a short time with the Pennsylvania Railroad and on family farms.  He worked for over fifteen years at the Lock Haven Hammermill papermill and moved to Lake Worth, Florida for several years before returning to his much loved Swissdale community.  John spent his remaining years as a trusted self employed carpenter and contractor.  He built several of the homes in Swissdale as well as home improvements on endless homes and businesses in Clinton County.  John loved camping with his friends and listening to old time country bands and musicians.  John and his wife “Kitty” enjoyed their home on top of the Whippoorwill mountain is Swissdale.  He built lawn benches, swings, and various woodworking projects that enhanced the beautiful flower gardens that surround their home.  Johns greatest joy was being the administrator of the face book group. “Growing Up In Swissdale.”  He worked tirelessly gathering newspaper articles and researching genealogy of relatives and friends who had loved ones who were the pioneers of the development of the small community.  He had 245 followers and he spent endless hours researching newspaper clippings and genealogy sites for the group.

 

Per John wishes, there will be no viewing or service. Burial will be handled privately by his family at the Swissdale Cemetery. 

If desired, a donation in Johns memory can be made to the 365 Hospice or to the Swissdale Methodist Church.
