William J. (Bill) Leuthold Jr.

Bill Leuthold, 85, of 56 Susquehanna Ave. Lock Haven passed away Aug. 21, 2019 after a lengthy illness.  Bill has passed through those glorious gates as he now resides with his Lord and Savior.

Born Feb. 24, 1934 in Hazleton, PA, he passed peacefully at his home while surrounded by his close family.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents William and Elizabeth Schetrumpf  Leuthold of Hazleton and has a surviving sister Mary Lou (Earl) Hunsinger of Hazleton.  He is survived by his wife of 59 years Lois Ann Leuthold (Schuchart) formerly of Jeddo, Hazelton.  Also surviving are his two children Gail Lynn Leuthold of Harrisburg and Brian (Andrea) Leuthold of Lock Haven.

Bill was blessed with four surviving grandchildren, Sean (Anna) Andrus of Susquehanna County, Matt (Britanny) Andrus of Lock Haven & Becca and Alec Leuthold of Lock Haven.  Bill was also fortunate to have four great grandchildren, Isaac and Aspen Andrus of Susquehanna County along with Brett and William Andrus of Lock Haven.

Bill was proud to have served his country for 4 years while in the Air Force as an electrical engineer.  He and Lois were united in marriage December 27, 1959 and eventually relocated to Lock Haven for his employment at Piper Aircraft in 1965.  He was proud to call Great Island Presbyterian Church his second home since the early1980’s where he and Lois would regularly attend.  Bill loved aviation and flying and remained with Piper until its closing in the early 1980’s.  He then moved on to various sales representative positions until finally slowing down in his later years to spend more time with his extended family.

He has greatly enjoyed being a second “Dad” to Sean and Matt while also cheering at soccer games for Becca and Alec.  He was thrilled to be blessed with his three great grandchildren and was honored to have witnessed and spent the past year with the newest addition and the 4th great grandchild, William.

A celebration of life with full military honors will be held Monday, August 26, 2019 at 2:00 pm in the Great Island Presbyterian Church, 12 West Water St., Lock Haven with a meal to follow.  Officiating will be Pastor Taylor Camerer.  Family and friends will be received in the church one hour prior to services.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the local SPCA, 33 Mill Hill Road, Lock Haven, PA 17745 in Bill’s honor.   Services are under the direction of the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home & Cremation Services, LLC, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven.

Bill's passing brings joy and sadness. Joy for him because he is with Jesus, but sadness for Lois and the family, and the rest of us who miss him. Bill was a good man. A faithful man. We thank God that we had the opportunity to get to know him. Blessings to his family.

I am blessed to have known Bill and his family for over three years at the Great Island Presbyterian Church and in functions at Lock Haven University. He spread love and joy everywhere he went and to everyone he met. Bill, I will always remember you.

I just read the notice of Bill’s passing in the Hazleton paper today. I do think that I got to know Bill when I was competing in a Jaycee sponsored “Driving Roadeo”. I won the event and Bill took me to the state championships. After I graduated from school in 1961 he helped me get a position at Dorr-Oliver Hazleton. I shall never forget him and his kindness toward me. I never knew where he got to when he left D-O
