William S. “Bill” Wyland, of Lock Haven, PA, passed peacefully with his family by his side Saturday, October 19, 2019, at Susque-View.

Born November 16, 1922 in Orviston, PA, he was a son of Lester I. and Catherine Confer Wyland. He married his wife, Evelyn “Sis” Moyer, on June 14, 1957, a day chosen because it was Flag Day; together, they enjoyed over sixty-two years of marriage.

He was a graduate of Howard High School in Howard, PA, class of 1940. He proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II. He served in France and was an ambulance driver. For several years, he played baseball in Howard. He first worked in the brickyard at Orviston, then for the balance of his working years for M. L. Claster and Son in Bellefonte, PA, as a supervisor in the drafting division.

He was a life member of the Hope Hose Fire Company in Lock Haven and served as treasurer for over twenty-five years. He was also a member of the Central District 2020 Volunteer Fireman’s Association. He belonged to the Howard VFW and the Bellefonte American Legion. For sixty-five years he was active in the Shriners, the Masonic Lodge in Bellefonte, and the Scottish Rite. He was an active member of the First Church of Christ in Lock Haven for many years; he served as a deacon and as a trustee. He was a member of the Cheerful Gleaners Sunday School class there. He was a life-long faithful fan of Penn State football and Phillies baseball, through good and bad years.

He and his wife enjoyed traveling, having visited several states and countries. He was an avid hunter and long-time owner of beagles and enjoyed his yearly visits to his hunting camp near Orviston. He also enjoyed gardening and in earlier years always maintained a large vegetable garden.

In the past six years while living at Susque-View, he looked forward to and enjoyed his daily family visits, including his time with his favorite dog, Bailey.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his nieces, Linda Pletcher Friant and her husband, David, and Amy Moyer Wert and her husband, Tim, along with several grand-nieces and grand-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his sister, Nelle Wyland Pletcher, his brothers, Harold and Benjamin Wyland, and a niece, Nancy Moyer Owens.

Services will be at the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home & Cremation Services LLC, 121 W. Main St. Lock Haven, PA. on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM and the funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM, with his pastor, Steve Salmon, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorials in Bill’s name to the First Church of Christ in Lock Haven, PA.
