James H. Eldred
Jim, as he was known to all his friends, admitted he had a very full life. He was a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1962-1966, reaching the rank of Lance Corporal, traveling to Cuba, the Mediterranean, and to Guam, where he was a disc jockey for the U.S. Armed Forces radio. He worked for Corning Asahi Video in State College, retiring in 2001.
In recent years, he became very involved with the Beech Creek Legion, as seen in the picture, “playing” Taps on the horn. In his workshop, he crafted many pieces of furniture for friends and family. Maybe you didn’t know that he was a World Champion Horseshoe pitcher in 1999 and 2000. He was an avid golfer and on a pool league team. He had been a collector of cars and motorcycles for most of his life, but in the last few years, he began to build and then race a drag car in his 70s!
James Howard Eldred is the son of William Kenneth Eldred and Virginia Harriet Edge. He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Carol Joy Crofutt, his parents and by his siblings, Bill (William Kenneth, Jr.), Dick (Richard Clayton) and Skeeter (Virginia Oneida).
Jim is survived by his three children, Kathy McCloskey (William) of Mill Hall, Kelly Corman (Lee) of Beech Creek, and Kevin Eldred (Amanda) of Williamsport, his younger sister, Barbara (Arnold) Ylonen, three granddaughters (Katie, Olivia and Rachael) and four grandsons (Nicholas, Wyatt, Caden and Colson) and one great-grandson (Jimmy). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, many cousins, and many more friends and neighbors.
Jim supported many causes over the years, as many local charities as he could. In lieu of flowers, feel free to support any worthy cause of your choice, Jim would have.
