Obituary

Thelma Irene Bair, 841 West Fourth Street, Lock Haven, died peacefully at home on October 30, 2019.

Thelma was born on May 14, 1934 in Lock Haven to the late Jack W. Rogers and the late Helen Seyler Rogers.

She was the valedictorian of the 1952 class of Lock Haven High School. She furthered her education at Lock Haven State Teacher’s College, now Lock Haven University, graduating in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.

On July 8, 1956, Thelma married the late Dean L. Bair at

St. Luke’s Evangelical and Reformed Church. They were married for 48 years. Thelma became a member of the church and taught a children’s Sunday school class.

Thelma taught for 36 years in the Keystone Central School District, retiring in 1996. She taught first grade at both the Castanea Elementary School and the Woodward Elementary School.

Thelma was a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the Association of Clinton County Educators. She was also a member of the Omicron chapter of Kappa Delta Gamma sorority.

Thelma enjoyed camping with her family, putting together puzzles, and doing Sudoku puzzles. In addition, she enjoyed playing cards with her husband and her brother–in-law and sister-in-law.

Thelma loved her family more than anything. Survivors include her two daughters, Jean (Rick) Kost and Ruth (Timothy) Nyman, as well as her two sons, William (Jeanie) Bair and Dean Bair, Jr. In addition, she is survived by her four grandchildren, Krista (Joshua) Savani, Ricky Kost, Matthew Nyman, and Elizabeth Bair . Thelma also has two great grandchildren, Penelope Savani and Julian Savani. Thelma also has two surviving sisters, Romaine Lynch and Betty Geise.

Along with her parents and her husband, Thelma was preceded in death by her in-laws, William and Bernice Bair. She was also predeceased by her sister-in-law, Geraldine Dietz and her four brothers-in-law, James Lynch, Harold J. Geise, William Kenneth Dietz, and Melvin Bair.

The family would like to thank Thelma’s two sisters and her two nieces, Helen Truax and Cathy Price, for helping to care for Thelma during her illness. The family is also thankful for the Hospice care Thelma received from nurses, home health aides, and the social worker through UPMC Susquehanna Home Care & Hospice Williamsport, especially Courtney, Alex, Susan, and Kim.

Family and friends will be received from 10:00 - 11:00 Friday, November 1, 2019 at the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, November 1, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home with Martha Sykes officiating. Internment will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the UPMC Susquehanna Home Care & Hospice Williamsport. Arrangements are under the direction of the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home & Cremation Services, LLC, 121 West Main Street, Lock Haven, PA 17745.
